Designed for a retired couple returning to settle in their hometown, the residence embraces simplicity, comfort, and a deep connection to its surroundings. Responding to the site's flood-prone nature, the house is elevated on a raised plinth, ensuring resilience while preserving a seamless relationship with the landscape.

The planning is intentionally straightforward, with all bedrooms oriented towards a central courtyard that forms the heart of the home, fostering natural light, ventilation, and visual continuity. Conceived as a single-storey residence, the interiors are enriched with double-height volumes that enhance thermal comfort by promoting stack ventilation and a constant flow of fresh air.

Deep, extended eaves shield the walls from harsh sunlight, reducing heat gain while reinforcing the home's understated architectural language. In the master bedroom, a carefully positioned north light introduces soft, diffused daylight, creating a calm and comfortable living environment throughout the day. Together, these design decisions result in a home that is climatically responsive, functionally efficient, and thoughtfully attuned to the rhythms of everyday life.
