Artisans House by Sankalp Designers

This plot is developed with a four-story structure, of which the first three floors were to be designed with interiors for our own offices (Architect's offices), and the last floor with a studio apartment. Before developing a design, a designer looks back to the roots or its basic form to find inspiration. This inspiration further evolves into a beautiful piece of art. Similarly, being close to nature inspires us to take on a rustic outlook. The rustic theme emphasizes nature, time-worn, handcrafted, distressed elements, constructed in earthen materials or finished in a natural hue. The idea was to create a workspace with modern spaces under nature's shadow.

The project has created an innovative timeless design language, a fusion of contemporary and rustic styles. The interiors also set an example of an interesting work environment, to get the maximum out of creative minds. The spaces create a sense of formal and informal character, developing a distinct work culture for designers. A climatic-sensitive layout is designed for energy conservation and reduced carbon footprints.

Office truly follows an "Open door policy" which allows it to create the most transparent and interactive spaces. The spaces reveal themselves in sequence, like an engaging film holding the viewer's interest. As the workspace is entirely related to the construction industry, the interiors also share the same language. Leftover construction steel, bricks, timber, concrete, in-situ flooring, and bamboo complement the design language. 

The research type is centred around interior space planning. Researchers focused on creating a sustainable microclimate, maximizing the use of infrastructure, and developing a timeless design style. In order to develop those strategies, the areas were zoned according to climatic response, functionality, and a design style that was relevant to the site context. In order to combat these strategies, we selected suitable materials to achieve a habitable microclimate. These materials are the following: the south facade is fenestrated with bamboo reducing the heat intake by 8-10 degrees and designing user-friendly and flexible spaces without hampering the internal infrastructure. Combining rustic and contemporary styles, we created a timeless design language that complements the site environment. Materials like leftover construction steel, bricks, timber, concrete, in-situ flooring, and bamboo add to the rustic look of the building. Materials were allowed to retain their natural texture through innovative applications, such as the use of construction steel for table support. As a result of such innovative experiments, the entire space was composed in the desired manner.
