Designed as a contemporary family residence for Mr. Amit Gupta, this 8,000 sq. ft. home in Ahmedabad is conceived as a calm yet expressive architectural retreat, one that balances clarity of form with warmth of materiality. Developed through a collaborative design process, the residence reflects the client’s clear vision and involvement, resulting in a home that is sculptural in presence while remaining deeply connected to everyday living.

Set behind an expansive open garden court, the house establishes a composed and understated sense of arrival. The landscape is intentionally minimal, allowing the architecture to remain the primary visual focus. Defined by clean lines and rhythmic wooden louvres, the façade negotiates privacy while softening the modern profile. A restrained material palette of metal, glass, wood, stone, and concrete grounds the structure, lending it quiet sophistication and depth.

The entrance sequence leads into an artistic foyer, subtly articulated through a refined screen that marks the transition without disrupting visual continuity. Beyond, the home opens into a 30-foot-wide columnless living and dining space, an expansive, fluid volume conceived to support both daily life and larger gatherings. Within this open plan, three pivoting design elements are introduced purely as spatial dividers, intuitively segregating the living and dining zones. One of these incorporates a rotating television unit, allowing flexibility while maintaining seamless connectivity to the kitchen and surrounding spaces.

At the heart of the residence lies a dramatic double-height volume defined solely by a skylight. This central light well draws daylight deep into the interiors, creating an ever-changing play of light and shadow while enhancing vertical continuity across floors. The sense of openness here becomes an experiential anchor, grounding the home in light and proportion.

In contrast, the front zone of the house accommodates a sculptural helical staircase rising through a nearly 40-foot-high volume. Serving as both a functional connector and a visual statement, the staircase introduces movement and softness within the otherwise rectilinear framework. Its presence is subtly echoed on the façade through horizontal metal beams that frame the stair zone, offering fleeting glimpses of the curved form behind the louvred screen.
