The primary objective of designing any house is to make it a home, Bawa's residence at Ponnani, Kerala, is nonetheless a prime example. The house stands out for its tropical modern design, with intricate carvings, tiled floors, and high ceilings. The warm, inviting atmosphere of the house is further enhanced by the lush greenery that surrounds it.

This residence was initially conceptualized from an assembly space, a space for gathering was acknowledged in the design by the introduction of a cross-functional courtyard large enough to gather the entire family. The neighboring living and dining room opened up to this inviting courtyard, while a passage running the entire length of the courtyard connected the upper floors.The outcome is a remarkable division between private and public spaces, with a delightful blending of the two. Ample daylight is directed into these spaces through the large window openings, additionally, the transom windows compliment the interiors with the different tones of the sky.

Besides the traditional woodworks with its slight contemporary touch, the interiors mostly have minimal furniture, a mix and match of modern with vintage decorative elements added to the aesthetics of these spaces. The bedrooms are planned with enough circulation space which is coupled with full heighted windows opening the interiors to the exteriors.

A sleek industrial staircase connects the two floors of this residence, the upper floors open to a passage connecting to the other bedrooms, the sloped ceiling above this passage is finished with the conceptual intention of imitating the traditional roofs of Kerala houses.
