Nestled in the heart of the densely populated urban fabric of Vasna, Ahmedabad, Block House stands as a bold architectural response to modern living within a compact site. The north-facing corner plot, measuring 57’ x 65’, presented both opportunities and challenges—chief among them was designing a four-level home for a joint family of two brothers, ensuring privacy and connection while maintaining openness and natural light.

The architectural form is characterized by a composition of stacked cuboids, carefully carved to create dynamic voids and terraces. This interplay of solid and void not only breaks the vertical monotony but also allows the architecture to breathe. The façade features perforated metal railings that lend a lightweight contrast to the solid masses while ensuring privacy and cross ventilation. The design strategically orients major spaces toward the north and west to minimize heat gain from the harsh southern sun, optimizing thermal comfort throughout the day.

The planning of the bungalow revolves around connecting each activity visually and spatially with nature. Courtyards, cutouts, and skylights introduce natural light and ventilation, ensuring that every floor plate feels open yet intimate. Despite its four-story volume, the structure never reads as an apartment block; instead, it manifests as a cohesive composition of levels unified by light, material, and proportion.

The upper floors accommodate additional bedrooms, a library-office space, and a multipurpose room that opens onto an expansive terrace garden. This transition from enclosed spaces to open, green leisure zones represents the home’s deeper philosophy—merging functionality with emotion, privacy with openness, and modernity with nature.

The material palette of Block House emphasizes authenticity—micro concrete texture, Shera planks, brick cladding, Relwood, and MCM textures merge effortlessly to create timeless aesthetics. Interiors feature muted tones of grey and beige complemented by teakwood warmth, crafting spaces that are both refined and enduring.

In essence, Block House at Vasna embodies a thoughtful dialogue between built form and natural context. It celebrates family, light, and material honesty, becoming not just a residence but a sanctuary—where architecture, nature, and life flow in harmonious rhythm.
