The homeowners; Anuj & Kanika, are extremely social people. They love to host people. Their life is around people, good food, good space, good drinks and lots of laughter! Anuj loves to make cocktails & experiment with his drinks (hence the bar was an important part) and he is the permanent bartender of their group of friends. Their house is about the celebration of life. The word celebration is what inspired us to put together the palette of this house.

For any of our projects, the reference point has always been a client. As a designer, it is extremely important how well we translate the personalities of the occupants in a built form. This house was full of references and inspirations across India as it is for a family, which was practically a nomad with their life pattern until this house happened. Their carriers and life took them from one city to another, moving from one house to another. From Rajasthan to Kolkata, Delhi to Mumbai, all these cities have been part of their memories. It was quite an uphill task to incorporate all the varied influences in a single home for a couple which has lived across India and has travelled the world as much as India!

The material palette has to be completely Indian redefined by contemporary sensibilities. Material palette and elements known to us since ages but talking about today in the form of their appearance and application. Various materials like marble, Kota stone, cement tiles found their place in this house. Furniture pieces were a mix of contemporary and traditionally influenced ones. Traditional Indian homes have always been incomplete without brass and copper.

To be honest, there are multiple elements in this house which adds to the space without competing with the other elements. May it be a long hexagonal flooring in the living room, flooring in the media room inspired by the works of Raza, ceiling cornice running around the living room, pale mustard colored ceiling in the living/dining or Indian arches for the openings.

The biggest challenge in this house was to find the coherence in all the different elements we were introducing in this house. Designing this house was like conducting an orchestra bringing different elements and colors together to create a symphony.

This house is for a family, which was practically a nomad with their life pattern, as their carrier took them from one city to another, moving from one house to another. From Rajasthan to Kolkata, Delhi to Mumbai, all these cities have been part of their memories. How do you find a home for a couple which also has travelled the world as much as India! The challenge was in creating a coherent palette for a family whose life and memories have been influenced by so many cultures. A house which is a celebration of all the subtle and bold flavors without making one dominate the other.
