In a household where tea is shared across generations and evenings echo with the laughter of twin daughters, the idea of “home” becomes more profound. It turns into a subtle negotiation — between old-world values and new-age routines, between what soothes and what lasts. Set amidst the verdant expanse of Pune’s western edge, this 1800-square-foot apartment by Oll Korrect Design Studio was imagined as a place where every member of the multigenerational family could find quiet corners for solitude alongside open spaces for connection.

With architect Rachana Chandwani Rakshe at the helm, the 3BHK finds balance in natural materials, understated form, and modern sensibilities—brought together through a distinctly Indo-contemporary lens. “They wanted to steer away from anything trendy or borrowed from Pinterest”, she recalls. “Just optimum quality, thoughtfulness, and a home they wouldn’t tire of.” That clarity shaped a space that is at once refined and relaxed; defined by intuitive layouts, concealed function, and a hushed palette which, in Rachana’s words, “soothes and invites, creating a backdrop that can be gradually layered with accents.”

Rattan, wood, and clean-lined silhouettes coalesce to forge a luminous dialogue with the soft spill of daylight streaming through expansive windows. Before the home reveals its airy core, the foyer offers a quiet prelude. A bespoke console stands here like a sculptural sentinel, crowned by a pair of artworks that nod to the family's artistic leanings. Italian marble floors course throughout, while matte-finished walls that lend a cocooning effect.

In the living area, form and tactility find their stride. Complementing the warm oak tones, a set of grey seatings from Design Bee anchors the space, their plush volume tempered by sleek legs. Adjoining in free-flow, the dining ensemble features striped upholstery chairs. A mango wood console accompanies, inlaid with a cheerful burst of woven mustard rattan, and glass pendant lights from White Teak cast a mellow glow.

The private spaces advance this language of softness and specificity. In the master suite, the headboard stretches across the wall, upholstered for comfort and merging fluidly into a study nook. A concealed door dissolves into the walk-in wardrobe wood-clad paneling, which rises uninterrupted to the ceiling, wrapping the space in a warm envelope.

The parents’ bedroom treads a fine line between the modern and the rooted. Wood and rattan recur here with purpose, forming a cozy bay window seat that harbours additional storage. Nostalgia is imbued through a vintage  poster bed and soft moulding on the study desk. A floating bookshelf is sculpted not just for books, but also to cradle medals and mementos—displaying a lifetime of love and pride. In both rooms, a delicate marble inlay on the flooring gently traces the bed zone: an unassuming gesture that lends definition without disrupting the calm.

For the daughters, Rachana opted for timeless over trope. “We didn’t want anything overtly feminine. It had to grow with them,” she explains. A sage green wallpaper adds vibrancy to the otherwise neutral base, while a scribble-friendly back-painted glass above the study table encourages spontaneous bursts of creativity. Green wardrobe shutters veil handles with playful protrusions, and all edges curve gently—allowing movement, safety, and delight to coexist.

Throughout, the pragmatic needs are seamlessly woven in, never weighing down the design. Just as memory finds its place in subtle gestures, the home itself manifests as an enduring portrait of who this family is—layered, loving, and deeply intentional.
