The residence is structured around the Nalukettu as its spatial and cultural core. Formal living, family living, and dining spaces are planned in a continuous ring around the courtyard, allowing natural light and ventilation to shape everyday life. The design reinterprets vernacular principles into a calm, contemporary residential form.

The form evolves from the Nalukettu, with masses arranged around a central courtyard. Articulated volumes, shaded verandahs, and deep overhangs create climatic comfort within a contemporary architectural expression.

Inspired by the Nalukettu, the residence centers around a courtyard that forms the climatic and emotional heart of the home. Living and dining spaces encircle it, creating visual continuity while maximizing light and ventilation.

Traditional architectural values are translated into a calm, minimal residential language rather than replicated stylistically. The house balances rootedness and modern living, creating a dignified family home that resonates with Kerala’s domestic heritage while responding to present-day needs.

The design is rooted in Kerala’s vernacular wisdom, where climate, culture, and lifestyle shape architecture. Reinterpreting the Nalukettu typology in a contemporary language, the house emphasizes spatial clarity, natural light, ventilation, and an emotional connection to place. The architecture seeks simplicity, restraint, and timelessness rather than visual excess.

Passive design strategies guide the house, with the central courtyard enabling natural ventilation and daylighting. Deep overhangs, shaded verandahs, and inward-focused planning reduce heat gain. The design prioritizes climatic comfort while minimizing reliance on mechanical cooling.
