The spatial configuration was refined from the builder’s original layout to improve circulation and clarity. The living and dining areas flow as a single volume, with zoning achieved through furniture placement rather than heavy partitions. Private spaces are positioned along a quieter axis of the home, creating a natural transition from social to intimate areas. Wall niches were carved into existing masonry to introduce depth, while service lines were carefully realigned to maintain clean, uninterrupted ceiling planes.
The project did encounter challenges. Existing air-conditioning cut-outs did not align with the intended ceiling design, requiring service recalibration and concealed interventions. These technical adjustments, though largely invisible in the final outcome, were essential to preserving the visual integrity of the space.
Sourcing furniture that matched the intended warmth and timelessness proved difficult in a market dominated by mass-produced modern pieces. As a result, all loose furniture was custom designed and fabricated in teak, ensuring consistency in proportion, tone, and detailing.

The colour palette remains grounded in earthy neutrals, layered with deep greens for depth and muted blues in the boys’ bedroom for subtle energy. Traditional motifs appear in soft furnishings, introduced with restraint to add cultural familiarity without overpowering the contemporary framework.
One of the most defining elements of the home is the living room TV wall. Inspired by the form of a jharokha, the niche composition adds architectural depth while maintaining softness. It anchors the living space without excess, embodying the project’s larger philosophy — balance, restraint, and warmth.
What sets Nirvana apart is not opulence, but intention. Every detail feels considered yet unforced. The collaborative process, particularly the experimentation with limewash textures and material finishes, allowed the design to evolve organically. The clients’ active involvement added emotional depth to the outcome, resulting in a home that feels personal, lived-in, and enduring.
