Soji’s house is a residence with 2 bedrooms in ground floor, 2 at first floor, a TV room and swimming pool on the second floor. Clients were specific about the need of spaces with maximum light, ventilation and privacy. They were also fond of high ceilings. The plot is situated at Kalady in Ernakulam district. A 15-cent plot with a peculiar shape near the Cochin International Airport.

The plot was a peculiar shaped one with majority area facing North but approach road on East side. The design intention was to place the major structure together at the maximum area side of the plot thus providing the privacy which the clients required and a long entry way covered with greenery on both sides. So it was decided to go for 3 floors to fulfill the requirements and have enough spaces outside. Only the porch was visible at the end from the road. From the porch we enter the sitout with builtin seating with lot of storage under the seating for footwares. Through front door we enter into a walking corridor which separates all the rooms inside and allows free functioning of the spaces. The ceilings are intentionally made high as the clients are taller than average.

The living space contains seating on 3 sides. The double height formal living is clubbed with prayer unit, view from upper walking corridor and a beautiful view to the double heighted dining through the open stair in between. The spacious dining consists of a 12 seater dining table and breakfast counter on the open pantry side. A high ceiling, view to the upper walking corridor and 2 sliding doors towards the green open dineout space adds to its beauty. From pantry we approach the kitchen and through the kitchen we enter towards the rear work area space. The walking corridor leads to wash area and common toilet. Both bed rooms in ground floor are positioned on the other side of the corridor and has a connected private garden space which increases the visual elegancy and natural light. Both rooms has a bay window seating towards the green court.

The upper floor also consists of two bed rooms with a connected balcony on one side of the walking corridor and a view below to the dining and formal living on the other side. An open balcony with seating surrounded by greenery is positioned towards the front side. Second floor is a mid level portion above the double height ground floor portion with two sections. A TV room and swimming pool with proper privacy for the users. Open terrace is located towards the airport side from where all can enjoy the view of the airport takeoff and landing strips.
