This au courant Gurugram apartment by the Storey Tellers Studio tells tales in crimson…

Delhi-based Storey Tellers Design Studio’s latest venture, Crimson Paradise, is located in Pioneer Araya in Sector-62, Gurugram. The modern three-bedroom apartment is home to a family of three, and is modelled to cater to their diametrically opposing tastes and design aspirations.

The design solution is minimalist, maintaining a fine balance of colours and neutrals while keeping it fun. The private lobby makes for a grand introduction to the house, incorporating elements of leatherite and brass. Red and black appear as pleasant surprises throughout the design scheme, lending liveliness to a white base. Towards the right, a console table complements a large circular hammered-brass element, mounted to a wall panelled in wood, brass, and white acrylic sheet. Circular mirrors hung in the passageway add a larger-than-life continuity to the space, before leading one to the foyer.

The highlight of the foyer is a collection of six of artist Aman Khanna’s Claymen arranged in a pyramid on the wall, in varying earthen shades. An understated wooden console table stands beneath, with a feature leg striped in black and white. On the opposite wall, an out of the box solution was born out of the need to conceal two distribution boards without disturbing the sanctity of the design. Customised for this space by the designers, the bespoke artwork flowing out of its frame achieves this seamlessly. Before one steps into the living room, a powder room decked in calming shades of blue can be accessed on the left.

A large hall encompasses the living and dining areas in one stretch of space, along with a bar corner adjacent to the dining. Shades of red adorn the design elements extensively — from upholstery to cabinetry — while maintaining a harmony of bright and calming colours throughout. The TV wall and bar counter are finished in Italian marble, using a single slab to carve out everything the home needed to create a glamorous setting for hosting gatherings. This look is enhanced by hints of gold — a chrome mirror on the wall behind the bar and a 7-feet high piping frame around the bar counter, carrying a quirky quote over it. The bar wall features a minimalist metal, wireframe-style shelving, supplementing the black highlights running through the room.

The kitchen walks hand-in-hand with the home’s overall colour scheme, but stands out from it with a liberal use of the Pantone Colour of the Year 2024, Peachy Fuzz. A chalkboard next to the refrigerator adds a personal touch to the space.

As one steps away from the common areas in the home, the way is led towards the private sanctuaries — the bedrooms. A screen divides the master bedroom into separate sections for sleeping and lounging, and uses the space available to its maximum utility. Several forms lend the room a distinct, lively character: multiple arches, angular silhouettes, and curves, particularly in the lounge. The TV wall sports textured panelling and open display shelves on one side. To cater to the homeowners’ largely work-from-home lifestyle, the lounge also hosts a study corner by one of the windows. Past the screen, the bed is designed to give off the look of a floating platform. A white base in the room’s colour scheme is complemented by neutral pastels and sprinkled with hints of black and greys. Ample storage has been provided in the room, along with a stand-alone dresser facing the bed. Apart from this storage, the dressing mirror also swings forward to reveal additional storage space.

The guest bedroom follows the tone set by the kitchen with highlights of peach over a muted base. The pièce de résistance of this bedroom is a bookshelf that makes for a fun and dynamic display-cum-storage unit, featuring multiple half-arches and slats. These curves are also reflected in the wardrobe shutters.

The occupant of the third bedroom is a teenaged boy with a keen interest in basketball. Hence, the room’s design features elements of play at multiple points, such as the wallpaper, the leatherite wall-hanging in the shape of a basketball, and the decal in the same theme. To one side of the bed, a desk is positioned along the wall with a quirky shelf in blue. On the opposite side of the room, a seating-cum-storage space runs the length of the room below the window.

Crimson Paradise creates a warm, comfortable first abode for the young family, providing opportunities for each member to express their own individual design language through colour, shapes, and textures, while tying all facets of the design through a unified palette.
