Designed as the architect’s own workspace, The Terracotta Accent is a 900 sq.ft. studio envisioned as a quiet sanctuary for focused creativity. Located within a building housing lush greenery, the main concern was to keep the interior palette minimal to blend seamlessly with the foliage around. As per building rules, the existing flooring, bathrooms, and balconies were retained, which guided a design approach based on adaptation. The office had to accommodate a discussion room which would also function as the main cabin and a workstation area. Reciprocating the firm’s values both spaces needed to be designed to feel fluid and connected, encouraging easy movement and everyday conversations. The office was to be imagined not just as a place to work, but as a place to pause, observe and think.

The interior concept stems from the firm’s philosophy of creating spaces rooted in nature and connected to people. The abundant greenery around the building became the anchor for this idea. To complement the seasonally changing landscape, a single material microconcrete was used across the walls and ceilings, finished in two tones: terracotta red and concrete grey. These colours reference instinctive architectural materials—brick and concrete, allowing the interior to blend seamlessly with the greens outside. Grey forms the monolithic base of the space, while terracotta is introduced selectively on horizontal surfaces, accentuating the desks and floating shelves. A clear glass sliding partition separates the workspace and meeting room, maintaining visual continuity and openness while allowing each zone to function independently. Soft curves in the furniture and ceiling tie the whole space together cohesively.

Designed and executed in a short span of 2 months, the space celebrates soft geometry, muted greys, and the tactile richness of terracotta. The meeting room and cabin is anchored by an organically shaped terracotta finish desk, doubling as a functional workstation and a sculptural feature. Opposite the desk, a leather sofa and lounge chairs create an inviting corner for conversations, reading, and ideation. Wall-mounted terracotta plates featuring minimal hand painted graphics of the studio’s most interesting projects become a focused artwork. The workstation area is continued in the same terracotta theme in an open layout. A clear glass partition with black aluminium profile separates the cabin with the workstation area. Clear glass with black profile is also used as legs of the work desks. This creates a floating and clutter free effect. Custom shelves float lightly along slender black rods, displaying curated objects.
