The brief was to transform a 3BHK apartment into a home that addressed all the day-to-day, practical needs of the client. The design vocabulary is based on two parameters: one is more element-based and involves curved walls, rounded edges, etc, and the other is in terms of the colour scheme, where all the walls, floor, ceilings and furniture are finished in shades of concrete.

The key idea of this curvy, concrete apartment was to create a flow of materials and furniture through these diverse spaces which complement each other in a minimalistic manner and bring the space to life. In addition to a soft, peaceful colour palette, these materials contribute to the soothing, comforting ambiance.

A theme becomes clear as you enter the foyer. The entryway has a perforated storage unit finished in concrete. This mass of concrete extends to the living room to seamlessly transition into a TV unit. The furniture here includes a pastel blue sofa and a coffee table made in black concrete finish. The fabrics and wall surfaces are kept understated and elegant allowing the bold red artwork and warm indoor plants to be the immediate focal points and accents.

The living room extends into the dining area that is highlighted by a bold red decor. The client wanted a portrait of his late father in the dining area. Rather than having a direct photo, they designed an abstract wall decor of the photo in bright red colour to contrast with the minimalist grey hues used elsewhere. A dining table made in black concrete finish is flanked by 6 upholstered grey chairs.

The wall separating the dining area and kitchen was hallowed out in a way that it formed a large, rectangular opening which became a continuous, hassle-free working surface, doubling up as a serving counter for the adjoining dining table.

The bedrooms are minimal with different color palettes to suit the people who use them. The rough concrete finish in ceiling and flooring continues throughout the home, which helps to create subtle transitions between different areas.
