The project named House of Aging Stones started way back in 2020, when Faisal and Shamna, the clients, approached Team Uru with the ground floor structure of the house already built. The clients were dissatisfied with the design since their requirements of a dream home were not being fulfilled. Thus they approached Uru Consulting, a Design, Management and Engineering Consultancy based in Calicut, for a redesign including the interior design of their house, and Project House of Aging Stones was born then and right there. The primary element of this project is the passage of time captured in stone, where each element ages gracefully, developing character and depth with the seasons.

When Team Uru went to observe the site at Parappanangadi, Malappuram, what struck them primarily was the lush, agricultural greenery of the place. But the existing structure of the house screamed isolation, closed off from the outer world by thick foliage. Team Uru started a detailed conversation with the clients on what the team observed about the space and their philosophy of design and sustainability. The clients were so in tune with the ideas put forward. Together, they envisioned a house opening itself into the outer world. It was to be designed in a way that it blended into the agricultural atmosphere it was surrounded by. To blend into nature meant using natural materials for building. The clients' love for wood and stone manifested in the design. The basic theme of the house, of timeless stones, originated from recognizing where the clients' hearts truly lay. So, natural stones were carefully chosen for the flooring. Wooden embellishments added to the building's rustic nature carved in stone. The colour palette went along with the hues and scents of the Earth.

The house, consisting of five bedrooms, a living room, an exclusive family living area, dining and kitchen, was threaded together in a string of the simplest design. Team Uru believes in the quiet directness and austerity of demure spaces speaking volumes of authenticity, rather than spaces of loud intricacies and flamboyance. Interior space management was done with the same motto where the whole house became a large interactive space. It was designed in such a way that children could work on their own projects, others could spend a lazy afternoon reading, or experiment in the kitchen, all of them still maintaining connections with one another through these interactive spaces. The atmosphere created thus is one of warmth and togetherness.

Though the project was designed in 2020, the construction work started only in 2021. Like any other work that happened during these years, many a time Covid put a pause to the progress of the project. Nevertheless, in multiple stages, the project came to fruition in 2025. As passage of time played its part, the natural elements used to build the house had begun to age gracefully, just as it was conceptualised by Team Uru. Further, it took another two years to complete the interiors of the house. So, the House of Aging Stones stands today with a well-developed temperament of its own, which usually is acquired through years of inhabiting a place.

People are perishable. It's the memories that stay for ages. A stone is also like a person. It has individuality. It changes with time and weather. That's why it has character like people. The element that makes this project a house of timeless stones is not that the stones remain unchanged with time, but that the stones carry the changes of seasons within them, along with their people. That is the poetic beauty of the House of Aging Stones, which the clients' family cherishes with nostalgia: a place they want to return to every time they leave after a vacation spent here at their house of timeless stones.
