Mothimahal by ENVID Atelier

Mothimahal is located at Changaramkulam a small town in the Thrissur-Malappuram border, in Kerala, India. The building facade and interiors align with our ideology of creating an unconventional design that is exclusively developed for the specific client. This jewelry store was the first designed showroom that the client decided to invest in. It was our intention that this project takes its form in a completely different style and become a landmark building in Changaramkulam town, standing uniquely apart from the local streetscape. 

The facade was fabricated out of Weathering steel, hot rolled steel sheets with MS reinforcement, and painted in automotive paint. The main objective of louvers and west-facing windows on the first floor, apart from being part of design aesthetics, is to channel the wind from the southwest direction. To further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the building, the louvers are of the same measurements, dividing the facade equally. The vegetation has given on the sides of the building and on both sides of the entrance tones down the rigidity of the overall industrial look and balances it out. 

     

A dark theme was chosen for the jewelry interiors to develop a unique experience different from conventional well-lit interiors which are usually the norm. Shopping under the starry desert sky was the main theme that came into play, gaining inspiration from the middle eastern roots of the client. The layout is simple with centralized circulation and jewelry display on either side. The flooring tiles have a desert sand type of finish and the starry sky ceiling is composed of optical lights in plywood. The walls are black to give infinite corners, avoiding definition while the product display is designed in strategically lit niches, giving emphasis to the products. 

The synergy with the client and the execution team made this project a reality and helped achieve all the aspired elements of the project.
