The house lies in a  fluid set up, between the farmlands and a canal in suburbs of Ahmedabad. The client had a very specific requirement to have a twin house for their children. While designing, the thought was to create a massing where the design would reflect as a single house and not as a twin. Also, considering Ahmedabad’s climate the spaces should have the desired direct / indirect light and ventilation. In this house, wind path is given the same significance as the functions.

The entrance comprises of pergolas and a facade of exposed brick wall with a sheer curtain of growing curtain creeper. Here, the space is played with contrast of colours and materials. The area comprises of brick, wood, stone crete plaster and plantations. The way leads to the main garden area through tiny lotus pond and a small bridge above it.

The entrance veranda faces the sunrise direction, which makes the perfect spot to have breakfast in winter and monsoon mornings of Ahmedabad. The living room, central area of the house has 15’ ceiling height with a sunken seating area. The living space merges with the temple area which is well curated and crafted with wood, mild steel fins and banana plantation backdrop. The peripheral circulation is defined by huge cane lamps which gives a very subtle yet timeless ambience to the space. The living area opens up in the private indoor courtyard and the front garden, this orientation allows to pass the breeze effortlessly.
The dining room faces the courtyard from where sunset can be observed and soft golden light lits up the whole space. The landscape of courtyard is a blending of hardscape and softscape. The courtyard is enhanced by organic form of pebble covering along with coconut trees.

The skylight above the staircase gives the soft wash on the wall and brightens the space pleasantly. The first floor has 2 master bedrooms and 3rd guest bed room is followed by the mezzanine floor. Bedrooms are placed to gaze the infinite views of the fields. All bedrooms faces bright light with shadow effects from louvers. Each furniture piece is designed to introduce warmth and textiles to add up the texture.

The material palette here has been narrowed down to kota chips plaster and exposed brick wall with a dash of vibrant yellow colour masses. The elevations have been designed with the bold statement by using grey and yellow masses in between the fields. The small cozy landscape compliments the experience of the house and completes the frame. All these elements and materials enhances the house’s balanced proportion.
