Anantam: A sanctuary woven in warm ochres, deep siennas, and enduring craft
For architects, sites are like manuscripts which hold multiple stories of time and space. In creating a residence for a family, the architect adds, negates and writes-over several parts of the site's story – to retell it afresh and anew. Similarly, when a multi-generational family decided to build their residence, the designers at Kuryaat Spaces helped write the building's story, imbuing it with light, life and attention to detail. With architecture and interiors both accomplished by Kuryaat Spaces, residence is a seamlessly scripted story, with restful pauses, tranquil corners and neutral living spaces. The residence, named 'Anantam', is configured as a monolithic spatial mass, with inward-looking terraces and seamless verandahs to let light in. An open-to-sky inner courtyard is a light shaft, bringing in natural light across all levels.
To suit the requirements of senior living, as well as visits by the larger family, this Surat residence follows a unique, functional approach for contemporary urban living. The three-storeyed residence spread across approx 4500 sq. ft . is approached through a lower and upper ground floor and a first floor.
As per the family's lifestyle, the lower ground-floor works as a basement, equipped with multi-purpose and storage spaces, while the upper-ground level holds the living, dining and kitchen areas, along with a master-bedroom. The first floor holds two bedrooms and a private recreational terrace, along with other services. A system of internal and external staircases allow for connectivity across floors, through living areas and service spaces.
