The design philosophy embodies Contemporary Minimalism with subtle influences. The Mathews home blends natural patterns with modern sensibility. Here minimalism does not have to be dull, cold or sterile but instead it is visually rich and feels lived in. That vision led to a visual language built around natural wood, cane, handwoven textiles, and a palette inspired by earth and light.

The color strategy demonstrates restraint and sophistication. A foundation of warm whites and soft grays provides a neutral backdrop, allowing the honey-toned wood and subtle brass accents to read as primary design elements. This approach creates spaces that feel both contemporary and timeless, avoiding the potential datedness of trend-driven color choices.

The interiors incorporate biophilic design principles through carefully selected botanical elements and natural textures. The woven grass cloth wallpaper, dried florals, and living plants create connections to nature that enhance the psychological comfort of the space. The bird motif wallpaper, which is a favourite, in one variation adds a layer of whimsy while maintaining the overall sophisticated tone.

The built-in storage solutions reveal the designer’s understanding of contemporary living needs. Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry maximizes storage while maintaining clean sight lines, with the textured panel inserts preventing the built-ins from reading as stark or institutional. The floating desk area demonstrates how multifunctional design can be seamlessly integrated without compromising the bedroom's primary function as a retreat.

Vertical wood slates creates rhythm and warmth throughout the space. They're not only decorative, but provide visual continuity, and textural interest throughout the home.
Natural textures like Linen curtains, cane webbing, jute rugs, and channel-tufted upholstery create tactile variety. These aren't accents—they're core to the material palette.

The foyer is anchored by a curved wooden console with vertical slat detailing, paired with a large circular mirror framed in cane and wood. This setup establishes a warm, welcoming tone right at the entrance. A careful mix of ceramic vases, plants, and small decor pieces adds a personal, lived-in feel. The materials — wood, cane, and greenery — reflect the home’s broader natural-modern theme. Clean lines and balanced styling keep the space uncluttered yet inviting.

Living room of Mathew's Residence by L'art Decor

The living room is designed to feel open, welcoming, and effortlessly stylish. A large sofa in a soft neutral tone anchors the space, offering plenty of comfortable seating. Its low profile and deep cushions make it ideal for lounging, while a mix of throw pillows adds warmth without overwhelming the clean lines. Nothing feels overdone. It’s modern, but comfortable. Tidy, but not precious. The kind of space where you can have friends over or curl up alone for hours and feel equally at home.

Opposite the sofa is a long, low media unit in light wood, with open shelves and subtle storage that keeps the space feeling calm and uncluttered. Above it, artwork and objects are casually arranged, giving the room a curated but lived-in feel.

The dining area is designed around the principle of natural minimalism, where form, material, and atmosphere come together to create a space that feels both grounded and quietly refined. At its core, the design celebrates order without any unnecessary ornamentation. A large solid wood dining table anchors the space, reflecting a subtle mid-century sensibility. Matching chairs with curved backs and upholstered seats are paired with a long bench featuring cane insets, introducing a layer of texture. Behind the table, a sideboard provides discreet storage and a subtle platform for understated decor. Above it, a grid of small circular wall pieces draws the eye without overwhelming the room. Each one is unique, adding texture and rhythm to the wall in a way that feels distinct.

This kitchen follows a clean, contemporary design with a clear emphasis on functionality and minimalism. The upper cabinets in matte white contrast seamlessly with the warm, wood-toned lower units, creating a balanced, modern look. Integrated lighting under the cabinets adds both task efficiency and a subtle ambient glow. Sleek, handle-less cabinetry enhances the streamlined appearance, while the neutral quartz counter-top ties the whole space together. The compact U-shaped layout maximizes utility without feeling cramped, and small touches—like potted greens and wooden accents—soften the space and echo the home's overall natural-modern theme.

The master bedroom unfolds in beige, taupe, cream, and honeyed wood. A quilted, botanical-print quilt and coordinating pillows give the bed a sense of poetry and nostalgia. A slender mirror, vertical wooden paneling, and handwoven cane-fronted nightstands channel warmth and soft luxury.

The first thing that catches the eye in the secondary bedroom is the expansive wallpaper —a serene tableau of birds in mid-flight, perched on delicate branches. The palette is gentle and evocative: soft blues, muted greys, and pale greens with hints of warm ochre. It doesn’t shout for attention—it hushes the room into calm.

The bed sits low and wide, wrapped in warm beige upholstery with a fluted wooden headboard that adds subtle rhythm and texture. Crisp white linens are layered with quilted throws and cushions in linen, sage, and dusty rose—echoing the plumage on the walls. It’s a nest, intentionally composed, yet utterly relaxed. The wardrobe is cleverly integrated, its doors dressed in pale wood and rattan, allowing texture and air to pass quietly between sleep and storage.

It’s the restraint, really. Each room speaks in a gentle tone, like a melody played deliberately, note by note. The design doesn’t shout. Instead, it draws you in, urging you to rest, read, reflect, and be. It’s a celebration of materials and moods: of tactility and texture, of thoughtful layering and intentional quiet.

The balcony is a small sanctuary bathed in daylight. It combines a mirror vanity, a bar unit with teak furniture and lush plants. It blends rituals and relaxation seamlessly, with vertical wooden slats overhead and delicate glass globe lights dangling above, blending indoor serenity with the outdoors.
