"Sparrow nests are distinctive in the natural world, yet they vanish into the spirit of the nature" From here, the initial steps were taken toward the realization of "The Professor's House".

A temple sits on the west side of the 12.38-cent land, surrounded by conventional dwellings. It was built as a four-bedroom home for a retired professor in a densely populated region of the city.

The Brief was to build a home that is as natural and unadulterated as the surrounding environment while still representing his unique personality. Weightage was to be given to spaces that encourage intellectual activities, like quiet living rooms, reading nooks, and gathering spaces.

The idea was to encapsulate the aesthetic of traditional spaces that evokes emotional connection between built areas and the natural environment. Therefore, combining traditional and modern design elements was the ideal approach to satisfy the client's specific desires for a home that respects the Architectural characteristics of the Traditional neighbourhood while being modern in nature.

The House features a series of courtyards seamlessly weaved with the built environment.
The house greets its visitors with a Primary Courtyard with a lush garden, featuring a modernized version of traditional “Padippura” on the East and an Industrial Car porch on the north east side.

The essence of the house is in the courtyards, which foster a microclimate within the residence while harmonizing the dwelling with nature. The ground floor houses a Living room, Dining , Library,  Bedrooms, Kitchen, Utility and Powder room.

The use of concrete flooring , exposed lime plaster walls has given the material palette complete justice to the house's concept. The house is able to stay raw, allowing it to melt into the depths of nature. The glass sliding doors and exposed concrete ceiling have greatly aided in achieving the objective of being unpolished and open to the elements, showcasing the true qualities of the material.

The majority of the wood utilized in this project came from the ancient vernacular house that was located there. The first-floor ceiling's filler slab complements the project's appearance while being cost effective and heat-reducing. The Interiors were meticulously crafted to align with the overall design philosophy. With the help of oil polish, the wooden furniture in this home showcases its authentic tone and nature, enhancing and highlighting the beauty of every room.

To Further Enhance the natural Aesthetics of the spaces, carefully placed perforations were added which create sculptural play of light and shadow. Everything, including each area, the type of material utilized, and the landscape design, was meticulously created to resonate with the homeowners desire for a lifestyle of introspection and serenity.
