This minimalist residence was designed on a 60' x 40' plot. The client wanted a courtyard house. With inspiration from courtyard houses in the Dakshina Kannada area, we brought together both vernacular and contemporary architecture together. The house was divided into 3 volumes. The central volume became a double-height inner courtyard that houses a garden and a pooja. A bridge that interconnects the other two blocks. The garden and pooja are flooded with natural sunlight and the shadows cast by custom patterned pergolas bring dynamism to space. The house is shielded from the harsh sunlight from the east with perforated MS panels. The design has been worked out in the section at various levels to ensure cross ventilation.

Shivamogga, a Tier 2 city in Karnataka, presents a unique climatic challenge with its tropical savannah environment characterized by hot summers and relatively mild winters. The design by Myriad Geometries responds to this climate by employing passive design techniques that reduce reliance on mechanical cooling, making it an environmentally responsible residence. Situated in a growing cityscape, the home is designed to harmonize with its surroundings while ensuring the comfort and well-being of its occupants.

One of the standout features of this residential design is the emphasis on sustainability through the use of locally sourced materials. In line with the architectural philosophy of Myriad Geometries, clay bricks, a material well-suited to the region, are utilized for their thermal properties. These bricks also prevent excess heat transmission, which is crucial in a warm climate like that of Shivamogga. This choice aligns with the firm’s commitment to reducing energy consumption while keeping the structure naturally cooler.

The design integrates sun breakers, an essential feature in tropical architecture. These elements serve a dual purpose: they act as shading devices that block out harsh sunlight while creating soft, filtered lighting for the interiors. By reducing the impact of direct sunlight, the need for artificial cooling is minimized, resulting in a 30% reduction in energy consumption, which is consistent with the firm's previous achievements in sustainable design.

Additionally, the residence takes advantage of natural ventilation. The orientation of the building ensures that cross-ventilation is maximized, allowing for natural airflow throughout the day. Large windows and strategically placed ventilation points allow hot air to escape, ensuring the home remains cool without the need for constant air conditioning.

The interior layout of the residence is thoughtfully designed to cater to modern living while ensuring that every square foot is optimized for functionality. Myriad Geometries has crafted the space to encourage both privacy and connectivity, making it ideal for a family. Open-plan living areas flow seamlessly into private quarters, with the design prioritizing comfort and usability. The kitchen, dining, and living spaces are positioned to receive ample natural light, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere.

The interiors are minimalist yet elegant, reflecting the firm’s commitment to creating spaces that feel expansive and uncluttered. The use of neutral tones, combined with locally sourced materials, brings warmth and character to the home without overwhelming the senses. Customized furniture and built-in storage solutions further enhance the functionality of the space, ensuring that clutter is kept to a minimum.

Recognizing the importance of nature in residential spaces, the design incorporates green spaces both inside and outside the home. Central courtyard and Outdoor gardens not only add to the aesthetic appeal of the residence but also improve air quality and offer a space for relaxation. These green zones help create a calm and serene environment, which is a key aspect of the overall design philosophy.

While sustainability and functionality are at the core of this design, the aesthetic appeal of the residence cannot be overlooked. The use of earthy, neutral palate with laser cut panels adds charm to the exterior, while the sun breakers add a modern, geometric touch. The façade is visually dynamic, offering a perfect balance between tradition and modernity, much like the city of Shivamogga itself.

Internally, the residence exudes sophistication with its sleek lines, natural materials, and contemporary finishes. The use of wood and natural Marble flooring further enhances the connection between the home and its natural surroundings, creating a space that feels both luxurious and grounded.
